Blackwork has been
used for centuries to adorn clothing and linens. It was first mentioned
by Chaucer in "The
Cantebury Tales", and was popularised in England by Catherine
of Aragon when she became Henry VIII's first
wife.
As
with
all needlework, styles and fashions have changed over the years, but
the basic
concept of geometric patterns in high contrast with the background fabric
has always remained popular. |
