This beautiful sampler takes its name from the Cotillion, which was one of many “contredanses” or “country dances” which originated in France in the 1700s. It is charted for seven colours, for which a key is given. But why not choose your own colours, changing them to suit your decor. You could personalise the sampler even further by changing the “partners” of letters in the motifs to the initials of your family.
