| This design takes its inspiration from the octagonal motif often seen on wonderful old Quaker samplers. The motto which runs around the design is also of Quaker origin, and shows that a good balance between work and play was an essential part of the Quaker philosophy. It is set out in the fashion of a traditional game board, but it also makes a beautiful sampler in its own right. The design can be worked entirely in cross stitch but, for those of you who like a challenge, ideas and instructions on how to add some speciality stitches into the design are also given. It is charted for nine colours, but would also look stunning worked in just two. |
